Grand Re-opening Pictures.....

The grand re-opening of 89k has finally arrived on October 5th, 2007. 89K has been in business for over eleven years, being a long-standing pillar of Taichung's live entertainment and nightlife scene. This American Indian style, down-to-earth place has now moved again for the fourth time in its history. This brand spanking new building inside-out boasts a distinctive, well planned 2 story. Owner Joseph, who is a real music lover and all round great guy resembles a Native American, right down to the leather jacket and pony tail, again has done all of the decor himself. Some features include a super long bar, seating and standing room for around 250 now and spacious dance floor. The second floor has some cozy lounging type corners with a great observation of the live music on stage and crowd below. A wide selection of local and foreigner Bands will play on weekends with a cover charge of only NT$200, which includes your first small beer or cocktail. What a deal man. Separate bar/seating and stand up bars areas in the middle of the room, convenient for watching the big projection-screen cable TV broadcasts of sports and other programs. 89K follows the tradition with its American Indian decorative theme which includes flags, plaque weapons, ancient pottery, cow skulls, patterned cloths and similar items. Some short order menu items include pork dumplings (NT$150), french fries (NT$100), onion rings (NT$100). Drinks remain reasonably priced, with beers going for NT$140/small bottle and NT$200/large and cocktails starting from NT$150. The house specialty is the sweet and tasty Nantou county Unsung Aborigine millet wine ("shao mi jiou") which sells for NT$140/glass or NT$700/bottle, and is also mixed with red wine in a shot glass (NT$150) or bottle for a uniquely-good concoction. 89K is located on the same street as the Pig Pen, with just a block between them.
